California’s Salvia apiana, called "white sage," has, in the nearly three decades of my practicing sustainable and protocol-properly gathering come from privately held lands in Southern California.
California White sage has deep roots in both ceremonial and medicinal practice contemporaraneously Native American and instrumentally returning the development of multi-dimensionally reviving our relationship with what gift-given* ways the nature we’re part of brings healing and balance back to living.
(*: No less than the late Native ethnobotany teacher; Dr. Richard “Bug” Bugbee - lifelong apprentice to a daughter of the once-renown authority of her Kumeyaay People’s cultural practices; Delphine Cuero [see Florence Shipek’s written informations of what Delphine shared]; as “Bug” felt that this particular sage was gift-given to human beings from “higher beings” - for us to stay connected - with life by maintaining our spirit’s connections forever.
Living, as I have done among numerous other’s keeping indigenous ways alive - there’ve been other teachers, Chiefs, Chieftanesses and practitioners of the ways that living with the inclusion of this gift kept us united in where to stay centered by our modern time’s, tradition’s practices.
